Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

 

The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program is one of the three main immigration programs managed under the Express Entry system by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The FSW program is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who wish to immigrate to Canada permanently. Here are the key components of the FSW program:

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Work Experience:

    • At least one year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid work experience in the last 10 years in a skilled occupation classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, or B.
  2. Language Proficiency:

    • Proficiency in English and/or French, demonstrated by taking an approved language test (such as IELTS or CELPIP for English, and TEF or TCF for French).
  3. Education:

    • A Canadian high school diploma or an equivalent foreign credential. Foreign education must be assessed by an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) agency.
  4. Proof of Funds:

    • Sufficient funds to support themselves and their family members in Canada unless they are currently able to legally work in Canada or have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.
  5. Other Requirements:

    • Intend to live outside the province of Quebec (which has its own selection criteria for skilled workers).

Selection Factors:

Candidates are assessed based on a point system, with a maximum score of 100 points. To be eligible, candidates must score at least 67 points based on the following factors:

  1. Age
  2. Education
  3. Work Experience
  4. Language Skills
  5. Arranged Employment in Canada
  6. Adaptability

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS):

Eligible candidates are placed in the Express Entry pool and ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which assesses factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and additional factors like a job offer or a provincial nomination. Candidates with the highest CRS scores are invited to apply for permanent residence during Express Entry draws.

The FSW program is aimed at attracting skilled workers who can contribute to Canada’s economy and integrate successfully into Canadian society.

  Prefessional degree needed to practice in licensed profession
  Two or more Canadian post-secondary degrees or diplomas or equal (at least one must be for a program of at least three years)
  Canadian post-secondary degree or diploma for a program of three years or longer, or equal
  Canadian post-secondary degree or diploma for a two-year program, or equal
  Canadian post-secondary degree or diploma for a one-year program, or equal
  Canadian high school diploma, or equal

  Your spouse or common-law partner has a language level in either English or French at CLB 4 level or higher in all 4 language abilities (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
  You completed at least 2 academic years of full-time study (in a program at least 2 years long) at a secondary or post-secondary school in Canada.
  Your spouse or common-law partner completed at least 2 academic years of full-time study (in a program at least 2 years long) at a secondary or post-secondary school in Canada.
  You did at least 1 year of full-time work in Canada:In a job listed in Skill Type 0 or Skill Levels A or B of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) and, with a valid work permit, or while authorized to work in Canada.
  Your spouse or partner did at least 1 year of full-time work in Canada on a valid work permit or while authorized to work in Canada.
  You have an Arranged employment in Canada?
